Shauna Foster, Morning Show Co-Host at C95 Saskatoon.

A fierce supporter of women, an advocate for so many charities and someone that is using her platform to help uplift and inspire others. It was a natural fit for us to reach out to Shauna and connect over DM.

We love following her on Instagram and learning about the small business love that she shares on a regular basis, the inspiring quotes and the humor involved in every day life being a working Mom with two little kids. She has an inspiring career that has created opportunities such as interviewing Oprah and receiving life advice from Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood and so much more! We love that she is truly working on making our communities a better place and is using her public platform to leave the world a better place.

Read on to find out how she got started as a broadcaster, what has been the most rewarding part of her career and her thoughts on how women can help support each other.

(Pink Tank Group): Can you share with us how your journey in broadcasting started?

(Shauna): In high school! It feels like eons ago. Oh wait it was! I was a drama geek in school and always knew I wanted to be in some kind of public forum. I interned at CTV and C95 through my high school years and was hired at C95 full time when I was 18. I was in the middle of the Television & Radio broadcasting course at WABC and Rawlco hired me. I finished my diploma at home while juggling my newfound career!

(Pink Tank Group): We love how you mention on your website that "Over 20 years in broadcasting has given me the platform to be the change I’ve always wanted to see". This is such an important mindset to have, especially in the last few years. Can you share a highlight (or success story) that this mindset has helped create?

(Shauna): I feel like I've not only experienced growth in myself personally... but I've seen in in the community as well. I think one of my biggest highlights is our C95 Radio Marathon for Breast Cancer. Even during the pandemic years we've watched our city come together, sharing stories, raising funds. So many other examples of giving, whether it's the Food Bank or helping families navigate through this weird world we've been in--the sense of open arms has never been greater. Porch drop-offs bring me such joy! It's the little things.

(Pink Tank Group): Having a chance to interview Oprah would be amazing! We can imagine it would also come with its fair share of work to prepare. What was the thought process or direction leading to the interview? How did you prepare for it?

(Shauna): Oh the stress! I had so many sleepless nights. Conference calls, revised scripts, tears, it was the biggest, most intimidating experience of my life. Oprah was as magical and inspiring as you can imagine. We were able to spend an entire day together, I will carry her words with me forever. She send a hand written letter to my home a month later which I framed!

(Pink Tank Group): You have created such an amazing community through your platform and are always so supportive of others showcasing small business love and helping to raise millions of dollars for charities. Is there one aspect of the community that you have created that stands out the most?

(Shauna): I think our business community. How stores, restaurants, gyms--learned to pivot (well, given no choice) and have worked tirelessly to get us through the pandemic. I am so proud of our city.

(Pink Tank Group): What do you love most about your career? Can you share with us a career highlight?

I love the family the most. The C95 Family. Our listeners. They make and form our shows day to day with their stories, sharing their lives. I think aside from Oprah, another career highlight was spending a day with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. My gosh they are inspiring! I had just given birth to my baby girl, I was this new wide-eyed tired mama and the advice they gave me I've carried for years.

(Pink Tank Group): How do you unplug and reset the mind?

(Shauna): I run away from it! Haha. Literally. I started running early in my broadcasting career, I felt it was special time to decompress. I've completed 2 half marathons and love my "break" from the stresses of the day, running the river trails. And ... well... shopping. Because, it's me. My other stress break!

(Pink Tank Group): What do you do when you're creatively stuck?

(Shauna): I talk it out. With co-workers, friends, family. I crave advice and opinions on things that matter.

You'll often find me pouring over books, websites, you name it. I love to learn and grow.

(Pink Tank Group): Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to enter the world of broadcasting?

(Shauna): Be open minded. It's not a 9-5 job... it still isn't for me. It's a 3am job and no, your body never quite gets used to it! But a lot of broadcasting is about life experiences. I feel like I'm always working --but that's a good thing. I would start by talking to a broadcaster you like, ask questions, find what makes them tick. There are so many wonderful schools in our country, right here in our city!

(Pink Tank Group): What do you think is one thing women can do more to support each other?

(Shauna): Be a shoulder. I find in particular with social media, feelings can be hurt--perhaps more easily than in "real life"... keyboard warriors can be a tough beast to slay.

I take time to show appreciation for females in my industry, or in any industry.

Sometimes it's a coffee drop off for a new mama, or buying a shirt from a local small shop. Commenting on posts, engaging with others. Showing support doesn't have to cost a thing. It can be a hug.
